ASC Foundation Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarships

Cytotechnologist – ASC Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarship
The ASC Foundation awards $2,000 each to five qualified cytotechnologists, who are ASC members and in their first two years of practice, to attend the ASC Annual Scientific Meeting.  This scholarship, based on need and merit, defrays registration, travel and hotel costs, and includes funding for one workshop, one panel luncheon, and per diem allowance. 

Fellowship/Resident – ASC Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarship
The ASC Foundation awards $2,000 each to five qualified Pathology Residents or Cytopathology Fellows, who are ASC members to attend the ASC Annual Scientific Meeting.  This scholarship, based on need and merit, defrays registration, travel and hotel costs, and will include funding for one workshop, one panel luncheon, and per diem allowance.

General Instructions and Criteria

Below are general instructions for the ASC Foundation Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarships.  Please refer to the individual scholarships for additional criteria and instructions.

  1. The applicant must be an ASC Member or an applicant for membership.
  2. A complete application, as specified in the instructions, must be submitted on the ASC Web site and received by August 15, 2014.
  3. A curriculum vitae that includes educational training indicating the time, place and degrees awarded, relevant awards and honors.
  4. Letter from applicant explaining why he/she should be considered for the Scholarship. Included in the letter should be the applicant’s statement of career goals (no more than one page) describing the applicant’s short and long term career goals and how the ASM Travel Scholarship will enhance these career plans.
  5. Two Letters of recommendation from individuals who are professionally familiar with the applicant’s potential.
  6. Application material should be submitted in the order listed as one document. Pages should be numbered and submitted in page order.

All applicants will be notified of the Foundation Board’s decision in September 2014.

Specific Instructions

Cytotechnologist – ASC Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarship

  1. The applicant must have no more than two years practice in the field of cytopathology.
  2. The applicant must demonstrate enthusiasm for and interest in cytotechnology.  Documentation of any of the following activities will be given consideration:
    1. Participation in or initiation of laboratory projects
    2. Discussion of current cytology events
    3. Attendance at meetings of local/state/regional/national cytology organizations
    4. Participation as an officer in local/state/regional cytology organizations
    5. Service on in-house or local/state/regional cytology organization committees
    6. Attendance at in-house continuing education
    7. Presentations at in-house continuing education events or at local/state/regional/national cytology meetings
    8. Author or co-author of abstracts submitted to continuing education forums
    9. Volunteer or community work, especially that which enhances cytopathology
    10. Commendation or recognition as outstanding student during cytotechnology training
  1. The application must include a statement of career goals (no more than one page) describing the applicant’s short- and long-term career goals and how this award will enhance these career plans.  The statement should be included with the applicant’s letter explaining why he/she should be considered for the scholarship.
  1. The curriculum vitae, applicant’s letter, and letters of recommendation must demonstrate the applicant’s enthusiasm for the field of cytopathology and need for this scholarship.    

Awardees will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and interest in cytotechnology, letters of recommendation, and the selection committee’s evaluation of the potential professional benefit of the award to the candidates.

Fellowship/Resident – ASC Annual Scientific Meeting Travel Scholarship

  1. The applicant must be in a residency or fellowship program.
  2. The applicant must demonstrate enthusiasm for and interest in cytopathology. 
  3. The application must include a statement of career goals (no more than one page) describing the applicant’s short- and long-term career goals and how this award will enhance these career plans.  The statement should be included with the applicant’s letter explaining why he/she should be considered for the scholarship.
  4. The curriculum vitae, applicant’s letter, and letters of recommendation must together demonstrate the applicant’s enthusiasm for the field of cytopathology and need for this scholarship.        

Awardees will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and interest in cytopathology, letters of recommendation, and the selection committee’s evaluation of the potential professional benefit of the award to the candidates.
