Instructions
Save your emailed receipt, containing the archive link(s) you purchased. If you purchased archives of the current series, the links are included on the receipt, although the information will not be available until 6-8 weeks after the Presentation Date. An email is sent when those links are Live.
The physician or cytotechnologist will review the materials on the link that includes the learning objectives for that specific program, the presentation, a handout, a post-test and an evaluation. After completing the post-test online, the registrant must receive 80% of the questions correct to get a Continuing Education certificate. Registrants are able to retake the test until they pass. Each program will be eligible for CME/CMLE/SAM credits until that activities expiration date, which is 3 years from the presentation date.
Archives from the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 series are CD's that require sending back an evaluation and post-test to obtain credits.
Completing the self-test is required, whether you are claiming CME, CMLE or SAM credits. Physicians can not claim both CME and SAM for the same activity.
Archived Cytoteleconferences Educational Objectives
- Identify cytomorphologic characteristics of neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the major organ systems including female genital tract, hepato-biliary system, lung, thyroid gland, and lymph node.
- Recognize key cytopathologic features of normal and disease states in a variety of clinical specimens including conventional and liquid based preparations of exfoliative samples (brushings, CSF, serous cavity fluids urine) and fine needle aspirations.
- Discuss current issues in gynecologic cytopathology and legal ramifications.
- Identify the role and limitations of new and emerging technologies in clinical cytopathology, including image analysis, automation, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and molecular/cytogenetic techniques.
- Discuss various types of quality assurance programs with a goal of improving patient care and meeting federal regulation standards
Continuing Education
The American Society of Cytopathology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Society of Cytopathology designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The ASC designates these activities for the indicated number of Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CMLE) credit hours. The CMLE credit hours meet the continuing education requirements for the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Maintenance Program.
This program is approved for continuing education credits in the State of Florida and the State of California.
American Board of Pathology Maintenance of Certification
This product can help fulfill the CME requirements and Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) mandated by the American Board of Pathology Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process.
The American Board of Pathology (ABP), along with the other 23 members of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), has committed to participating in a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. This program is designed to assist physicians in maintaining standards necessary for them to provide quality care in their chosen specialties throughout their careers. MOC is a continuous process that begins immediately after board certification. As of January 1, 2006, all primary and subspecialty certificates issued by the ABP are time-limited and expire on December 31st, ten years after they are issued.
MOC Part II (life-long learning and self-assessment) requires that each diplomat obtain an average of 35 Category 1 CME credits per year for each two-year period in the MOC cycle. Ten of these credits must be obtained from completion of self-assessment modules (SAMs). Eighty percent of the CME requirement must be directly related to the diplomat’s practice.
The ASC is committed to helping pathologists meet the life-long learning requirement and is working to ensure that our CME activities address learning needs across the six competency areas adopted by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), and that all aspects of practice are evaluated and outcomes are measured. The six areas of competency are patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
Physicians must complete a Self-Assessment Module (SAM) to claim MOC credits for each teleconference. These modules are online, after evaluating the session and they consist of 5-10 questions. Physicians must get 80% of the questions correct to print a certificate.
Each educational activity in this catalog is labeled with one or more icons indicating the competency area addressed in the session's content. This can help you develop an educational plan that meets your needs and builds knowledge/skills across the competency areas.
