Figure 3: CTs perform a preliminary H&E review of tumors prior to molecular genetics testing. This review is done to: 1) mark areas of tumor on the H&E, 2) determine the tumor cell percentage and 3) scrape the areas of tumor from unstained slides to be used for testing. This is a crucial component of genetic testing of tumor specimens since the analytical performance of PCR based tests are dependent of the concentration of tumor cells in the specimen.
