Preamble for Applicants

These awards have been established in memory of the late Geraldine Colby Zeiler who passed away in 1990. Mrs. Zeiler trained as a cytotechnologist at the Mayo Clinic. The awards are made possible through the generosity of Dr. William B. Zeiler, family and friends of the late Mrs. Zeiler. The awards are funded through the College of American Pathologists Foundation and administered by the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC). Up to five awards, each consisting of a certificate and $1,000 are available for this year's award.

The purpose of the awards is to stimulate and reward high achievement by cytotechnology students during their training. Awards are based on academic performance and microscopic diagnostic skills as demonstrated within the program, as well as, leadership ability, initiative, acceptance of responsibility, dedication, and collegiality.

To be eligible for an award:

The student must be enrolled in an accredited Program of Cytotechnology approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee (CPRC) of the American Society of Cytopathology.
Candidates for this award must have completed their first six months of training in the approved program, and at the time of application, must have every intention of completing the program.

Applications must be submitted no later than June 1, 2013.

To be considered for this award the following information must be uploaded as a one page document using a font size of 11pt or larger, at the time of application:
�List any honors or awards you have received at any time. �Why you decided to become a cytotechnologist. �How you expect to put your training to use, including your career goals. �Describe your participation in any special projects in the program with their actual or expected outcome. �What sets you apart from your peers? Do you have qualities you believe will make you an exceptional cytotechnologist? �Please provide any additional relevant information.

A completed application must include two references. Please request that the two individuals who have agreed to support your application for this award complete the online form. One of your references must be the Education Coordinator of your cytotechnology training program. S/he should know your abilities and potential as a cytotechnologist and should provide the awards committee with insight into your academic achievements, clinical skills, commitment to cytotechnology, and personal characteristics.
Note: It is the applicant's responsibility to check with the referees to be sure that the recommendation forms are completed or the application will be considered incomplete and not considered for the Zeiler Award.
